With this belief we started our journey, we managed to make our name known and surrounded ourselfs with people who over time became our friends and some of them even family.
Sweet and beautiful Bucovina, as we like to say, is the place where our story was born, since 1994, when between the walls of the former slaughterhouse that served the Habsburg army, built during the reign of Emperor Franz Josef in the middle of the 18th century, we brought to life the recipes inherited from Grandpa Toader and turned the meat from the local livestock farmers into delicious meat products.
Because the yard of the small grocery store had become too crowded for the customers who wanted to taste our products, in 1998 we opened the first La Baciu store in Câmpulung Moldovenesc. Over time, we have expanded the range of products as a result of the assiduous search for the oldest and most authentic Bucovinian recipes. Along with the recipes already inherited, new and new recipes were added, taken from the oldest butchers on the plains of the Obcins.
The secret to the unmistakable flavor of the meat products is the fact that the recipes are simple, with natural ingredients, made by hand. Smoke from the wood smoker and salt from Cacica salt mine are our ‘preservatives’. The special mixture for brining where the meat is kept, the smokehouse made of cherry and beech wood, as well as choosing the right time for maturation are just some of the successful ingredients of the meat products with which we have gained fame in the country and abroad.
During a trip to our beautiful region, someone entered our property, tasted the products and invited us to a fair in Bucharest at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant. A long series of national and international fairs followed, where our products received appreciation at the highest level, culminating in obtaining the Quality Recognition Certificate from the Royal House of Great Britain, signed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II a.
Flattered by the attention received both in the country and abroad, in October 2008 we opened the first store with traditional meat products from Bucovina in the heart of the capital city, on Calea Floreasca. Thus, we brought the people of Bucharest “a corner of Bucovina”.
From food to a welcoming home was just one more step. Customers wanted to visit us in Bucovina, to know our story, and so in 2011 we opened Casa Baciu, a domain that covers an area of 10,000 square meters, with delicious food, welcoming hosts and eager to tell you the story of the place. From year to year, the venue became too small for those who wanted to visit us, and encouraged by the appreciation of our guests, we put another brick at a time and expanded the area.
Thus, in 2020 we opened the doors of Casa Baciu Colacu, our soul project, this being the place of our childhood. This location, located at the foot of the mountains, was designed to please the most demanding guests.
And later, in 2022, we opened the third location, Conacul Baciu, which stands above our domain in Fundu Moldovei, offering our guests breathtaking views of the Bucovina landscape.
We look forward to welcoming you here, to convince yourself of our family’s hospitality and to find out why it is said that Casa Baciu is the “culinary paradise of Bucovina”.
